Dorothea Lange's "Migrant Mother," destitute in a pea picker's camp, because of the failure of the early pea crop. These people had just sold their tent in order to buy food. Most of the 2,500 people in this camp were destitute. By the end of the decade there were still 4 million migrants on the road.

Introduction

To Kill a Mockingbird, a novel by Harper Lee, takes place in the 1930‘s, an age of poverty, simplicity, and prejudice of many kinds.  For the next several days, you will search through the artifacts of this era and find out the rules that made up our society 70 years ago.   With a partner, you will choose a specific topic of interest, collect data on your topic, write a relflection piece on what you learn and how you feel about America in the 1930‘s, and finally, create a visual representation of your findings to present to the class.
